Days off

I rarely find time to actually sit down and do nothing. Aka do nothing days. But today is one of them, and I'm loving it.

I'm happy my summer wont be spoilt by football, I'm happy I'm going to Brussels on Tuesday for a nice trip to see the EU and the European Commission and I'm happy that I'm going to New York the following week after NUS decides to change for the better.

Yes life is sweet, I'm even starting to play world of warcraft again (yes I know it is sad!) But tomorrow is back to London, however there's something exciting before I catch the train, and that is the quick fire questions poised to both Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne which is happening tomorrow at the Blue Bar in Porthtowan, I'm looking forward to it!

I've already voted for Nick Clegg, because I feel he's the best communicator, and best leader the party has. It's time for the Liberal Democrats to go into 5th gear and reach out to the people who dont normally vote for us.

Any way have a good do nothing day, and I'll be writing to you again from either Brussels, London, Bristol, Leicster or New York! I do get about a bit dont I!

Football = crap and therefore not a sport

Football, I hate it, it is not a sport and it is not a talent.
Its kicking a ball, and diving and crying. AND then having the audacity of claiming £1billion a week to do it. I bloody hate the stupid thing. It's not like rugby where there is actually team work and people who dont spend their £1billion a week pay on a haircut.

oh and that beckham prat, he's like david blaine, he's a git person! Footballers are just over payed whining talentless idiots who dont contribute anything to society.

Why is it so popular? Whats the difference between football and a boy band? NOTHING they are both overpaid talents idiots who cant get a job anywhere else.

Any way time to calm down

afternoon everyone

So it's done, my magnum opus is completed, and how do I feel? Like I want to curl up in a ball and do nothing for a week! Never mind

It's been a busy three months! But my diss is in and now I can actually go out to work, earn money and do more NUS stuff! This weekend, if I feel better, will be spent in Bangor then Belfast, and then London, with Wednesday and thursday being spent at work!

So what do people do with days off? What am I going to do on sunday? watch telly? I havent done that for ages! or play world of warcraft? Yes I am a geek, but more importently I'm done. And I cant wait to see what challenges lay ahead for me!

Also
Vote Clegg!

Libraries, I love em

Here I am, sitting in the Library at Swansea University doing work and all I can think about is doing another blog. (Actually no it isn't I am just bored of coursework, well bored isnt the right word, overloaded that's more like it, though it's almost done read through tomorrow!!!!)

Any way so we've chosen Paddick to be the candidate for London mayor. I was quite gutted when I found out becuase although incredibly busy I did ask if I could help Chamali. However in Paddick we do have someone who has over 20 years in the MET. So he knows London. I think that both Paddick and Chamali stood out as very exceptional candidates, and as I work part time in London I feel like I do want to have a say in how the city is run. I care deeply when the tube go on strike because it effects me, I care about how expensive the congestion charge is because it affects me, and yes even though I do spend most of my time in Tavistock Square in a hotel, I do actually want a job there and to live there for a few years. London is a young city, it's bright and buzzing. In the next few weeks I shall be in Brussels and New York, and by all accounts Brussels lacks personality and New York lacks intimacy.

And on the actual race, that is now going to happen, this is what I feel the candidates represent

Boris; a London of the 1950s, one in which was dominated by smog, tradition and conservative

Ken; Today's London a London that is brightening up but somehow wont achieve its full potential, a London that has the ability to be dominated by striking tube drivers, and a London which will just stay the same, good but not good enough.

Brian; Obviously Brian represents what London could become, a London which is brighter, successful, and based around people power. A London which will be home to millions of people and yet you'll feel safe in your house, a London which will welcome visitors new and old alike, and a London which will be available 24/7. A London which will embrace the olympic spirit. It will be our London and Your London.

anyway I look forward to the fight, probably because most of my friends who live in London (I mean NUS friends) want Ken to maintain his lead on London. I like Ken, but Ken just isnt Liberal and does think to much inside the box.

Blogness

Having started this on Friday, I've found people actually read what i write, which is amazing!

Also Ive started to get used to this thing so here's a picture of me;

Dont I look lovely? ( also I just clicked it and I did not realise that photos from phones could be that big!)

Anyway, if you want to find out more about what I do in NUS you could always go to Officer Online. Or just comment on here. Ohh I just seen there is a video option. Mind you I'm not going to run before I can walk with this blog.

Week of Busyness

Hello everybody!

Right, firstly yup dissy due in this week, why did I even start a blog?

Any ho, other than that I'm in Bangor on Saturday which is going to be interesting. A group of officers from around Wales are trying to scrap the full time NUS Wales Womens' officer and replace it with a full time NUS Wales Welsh Language officer. As you can probably guess, I have a unique understanding of this issue! Having sat in several University of Wales meetings only to see it's demise this year. Second I'm former NUS Wales NEC so again I am aware of the issues, but they'll be a blog on this on my NUS blog, both on officer online, and my NUS comment blog.

So what am I doing at 10am on Sunday morning, well nothing much really just looking forward to stress relief thursday. Oh and seeing friends. Having left Swansea it is quite sad to leave but I feel it's time, everyone needs to move on and my time has come, dont worry I'll come and visit, partly to help the Lib Dems, and partly to make sure JCs is still there.

Also it's the beer race on Wednesday, I've run it once, I've stewarded the rest of the time but I like doing it, it's part of Swansea RAG which raises over £20000 for charity last year so it's all worth it.

Any Way toddlypip

BT Bloody Broadband

Yo
Right I am at home doing coursework, using a wide variety of online journals to help finish my dissertation, and then the bloody internet goes down. I checked everything, wireless router to my own modem, and it's fine, I use the other computer in the house and the internet doesnt work on that one either. By this time you can probably imagine I am again quite peeved.

Any way I just realised you can now get broadband over your phone, so a quick phone call to my network and I am now on my3 Broadband Lite. Yes it costs £10 a month and I can get the internet any where, and it wont cost me £20 a week like wireless does in hotels. I can use it fairly quickly and all I need is a program to download which is awesome. Any way thanks for saving my sanity 3. Otherwise BT bloody broadband will be shot.

56 Day detention terrorism and Britain

Yesterday I got quite annoyed. Actually very annoyed.

On BBC Radio Cornwall there was a debate about the detention of terrorist suspect for 56 days with out trail. Which I am completely against as it is illiberal, irrational and will only seek to undermine the communities we need to support in the fight against international terrorism.

Lets get one thing straight, terrorism has been part of British life for over 40 years. When I was in primary school (in 1994) we weren't allowed to go to London because of the terrorist threat from the IRA. This "new" terrorism may be different in nature but the motives are the same (based on a ideology and sense of Islamic nationalism and fundamentalism; yes folks this all started when one Saudi namely Osama Bin Laden wanted the US to get out of Saudi Arabia), but now the terrorists want to kill themselves as well as others.

I've studied terrorism as part of both my under and post Graduate degrees, and lets face it the IRA and Unionist terrorist killed more people on UK soil than Al Quedia has ever done.

Anyway I'm deviating from the point. I heard on the radio from one man;

"99% of Muslims aren't terrorists although 99% of Terrorists are Muslims. Send them Back."

I was shocked and appalled by this language. There were more Terrorists in the Maze Prison than have been charged in the past 5 years.

And secondly send who back, who are "them" are them legitimate citizens who help build British society in to one of the greatest in the world but have a different religion to us? I may be white, middle class, and hold a degree but I feel offended when my friends are referred to as "Them."

I honestly feel that 56 day detention is dangerous both in ways aiding extremist organisations and tearing away our civil liberties. (according to the man civil liberties and human rights are different)

If you want to lock people up use the money for more bloody police officers, oh and scrap the card which calls you a number which relates to an entry onto a computer in London. I am a person not a number.

Sorry if thats a bit rantish but the level of the rant just relates to how utterly annoyed I am.

Hello!!!

Hi everybody!

This is a new blog! Well you can probably guess that with this being the first post but then again, some people need telling! This Blog is going to be about me mwahahhahaha, this is not going to be confined to NUS this is going to be about everything, from NUS to sport to Traveling and probably a lot of politics. Well almost all about politics and the general daily grind of a student/ liberal democrat activist.

Any way I hope you enjoy it, love it and also hold it! And please please comment!
